The mission of the Art & Environment Committee is to provide décor in the church that will enhance the liturgical season, without taking away from the beauty of our worship space.
Time: We meet four or five times a year to determine what we will do for the seasons. Other time requirements are dependent upon your individual responsibilities to this ministry. Committee members are also responsible for setup and takedown, as needed.
Members of the committee do not need any special skills; only to be open to ideas and willing to offer their advice. We have members who sew, build, and arrange flowers, shop for materials, water plants, move décor items, and many other things.

Communion Ministers should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the Body and Blood of Christ. This ministry is open to members of the parish who are fully initiated and in good standing in the Catholic Church, have attended the Archdiocesan Formation, have been recommended by our pastor, and have received a Communion minister mandate from the Archbishop. These ministers may also take Communion to the homebound and sick.
Time: Volunteers are scheduled on a rotating basis through Ministry Scheduler Pro. You determine your availability and schedule.

Volunteers are often needed to help fill the need for liturgical ministers at funerals, including the roles of ensemble singer, lector, altar server, welcome minister, sacristan and usher. This is a rewarding ministry in which volunteers have the opportunity to express their support for the grieving through their participation in the funeral liturgy.
Time: Volunteers are typically contacted two or three days prior to the funeral and are generally needed during daytime hours, including Saturdays. Signing up for this ministry does not mean that one is expected to be available every time he or she is asked.
Gifts and talents: Anyone who can "carry a tune" and likes to sing is invited to sing with the adult funeral ministry volunteers. Other liturgical ministry positions are filled according to experience and ability in that particular liturgical function and guidance is provided as needed.

Having the opportunity to study and then proclaim the word of God is such a gift. This commitment allows the parishioner to be the “voice” for God’s Word and share this with the community.
Time: Volunteers are scheduled on a rotating basis through Ministry Scheduler Pro. You determine your availability and schedule.
Gifts and talents: Parishioners who have an interest in this stewardship opportunity should be able to speak comfortably in front of the assembly and be willing to attend initial training sessions and then subsequent training sessions 1-2 times per year.
Ministry Chair: Susan Dunn

Being a sacristan is a very beneficial way to serve our church community and an active way to participate in a Catholic Mass. Sacristans have very important roles before, during, and after Mass. Duties include setting up the sacred vessels in the sanctuary and on the gifts table, as well as preparing and setting out other needed items. During Mass, the sacristan helps direct the gift bearers and retrieves the ciborium. Once Mass is over, the sacristan returns the vessels to the vestry for the next Mass or storage. This role may have other duties as needed, such as for special times of the year.
Time: Volunteers are scheduled on a rotating basis through Ministry Scheduler Pro. You determine your availability and schedule. Volunteers arrive at least a half-hour before Mass time and will normally be finished 15 to 20 minutes after Mass.
Gifts and talents: A sacristan is an EMHC (Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion) who receives additional training. The training is not long and is best done by shadowing a sacristan for a few Sunday Liturgies. This is a rewarding ministry for a few good smiling people who like to help things run smoothly.
Ministry Chair: Jim Mathews
Ushers greet parishioners in the worship space, give out bulletins/worship aids, and offer help to those with special needs. During the Mass, the usher will direct the Communion procession. After Mass, bulletins/worship aids are straightened and the worship space is tidied. A short training is provided.
Time: A short training session of 20 minutes is all that is needed for orientation. Volunteers are scheduled on a rotating basis through Ministry Scheduler Pro. You determine your availability and schedule. Volunteers arrive at least 20 minutes prior to Mass and stay after Mass for 10-15 minutes.
Gifts and talents: Members are from Middle School age and up, and should be friendly and helpful. There are no meetings to attend. Ushers are needed.
Ministry Chair: Susanna Burger
One of Saint Bernadette’s strengths is that we have a very welcoming parish community. Our Welcome Minister’s role is to spray hand sanitizer and to say “good morning” or “good evening” to all who walk through the doors of our church building before Mass and to engage with those who are interested in joining Saint Bernadette after Mass.
Time: Volunteers are scheduled on a rotating basis through Ministry Scheduler Pro. You determine your availability and schedule. Volunteers arrive at least 20 minutes prior to Mass and stay after Mass for 10-15 minutes.
Gifts and talents: A welcoming smile, a cheerful attitude, and a love of getting to know those entering our building are the talents that are necessary for this ministry. This can be a great ministry for a family to do together.
